Creating more Mindful moments
I was in the lift with another person. I thought in my head it was Monday. It felt like Monday. But it wasn’t. It was Tuesday. I said to the person, what day is it? Is it Monday. The person responds by saying ‘No it’s Tuesday, which is good. Who wants to go back to Monday?’.
This got me thinking. Why are we in such a rush to finish the day, the week, the month, the year….
Insert ‘slow’ sign. Insert ‘stop’ sign. Insert ‘breathe’ sign.
I am reading a book on mindfulness, hence the reason why this conversation stopped me a little. Previously I would join in thinking nothing of it.
Insert ‘mindfulness’ movement.
You only have this moment. Right now.
My head was always stuck in the future. Future planning, everything. What am I going to do on the weekend, what am I doing tonight, What am I doing at Easter, Christmas, my next holiday, five years from now. The list goes on.
Until I realised that when my head is stuck in the future, I am not actually living my life. I am missing everything. And on top of that, I have also come to realise that the concept of ‘the future’ is just that. A concept. It’s not real. The future never comes, all we ever have is this moment. Yes, you can plan the future, whilst staying in this moment, but when your head wonders into the future, you are living the moment in ‘future fantasy’.
It is the way that your mind is set.
The mind has created patterns. The patterns become your perceptions. How you think and feel about success is a perception. How you feel about your life is a perception. If you want to change the perception, change the patterns you have created. Before you go about trying to change them, just look at them. How many patterns do you have going on?
A new mindset or any at all!
Instead of trying to work out what new mindset or patterns you want to shift to, stop yourself. Let them happen as you happen. Let them change as you change. Avoid becoming contained by another set of patterns. Focus on staying open and see what you are drawn to, what is not drawn to.
