Leave on time
So you are smashing 10+ hours at work and not feeling like you are getting anything done.
Definitely time to re-think. How much time are you dedicating to work and how much time are you dedicating to you.More often than not it comes down to efficiency. Are you productive in the hours you are at work? How can you fit more in less time?
One key rule is to not be a slave to the phone or your email. This will chew all your time. Sooner or later you will find that you don’t know what to do when you are not being directed by someone or something, and miss the opportunity to develop your own thinking. One rule of thumb is to not check your emails when you get straight into the office – but to start working on the big ticket items that make a difference.
Another suggestion is to create space in your day to reflect. It can be 10 minutes. But this will give perspective on your daily tasks and priorities. Be ruthless on tasks and projects that are not aligned to the big picture and that are draining your energy.
When you cover the big ticket items you don’t feel guilty about leaving on time and not staying back with everyone else. And you can take some time for you.
